How Long Will Camping Food Last?

How Long Will Camping Food Last?

The last thing you want while camping is for your food to go bad. The good news is that you have several choices for camping food that will last the duration of your weekend getaway or even your two week excursion. Most of the survival food on the PrepSOS website are good anywhere from 7-25 years. This way you will not need to worry about eating it through the weekend or season.

Perishable items you should keep in a cooler throughout your camping trip. Keep all items sealed and in air tight containers to preserve food items. Basically foods that don’t have moisture will last longer than items that have moisture in them.

What are Some Food Items That Almost Never Expire?

  1. White rice:
  2. Honey
  3. Salt
  4. Sugar
  5. Dried beans
  6. Powdered milk

All of these items are available on our website. Food on the PrepSOS website also have a very long and stable shelf life. They are made for emergency’s and preparing for the worst. These items would be great to bring along for camping trip. This way you do not have to worry about eating everything within the week. You can save it for future trips.

Camping Food Ideas

Nuts and seeds

Nuts and seeds are very easy to transport. They are light weight and take up little space. They are both high in proteins, calories, minerals and healthy fats. A perfect fit for your backpack.

Dried fruits

Dried fruits unlike fresh fruits have a long shelf life. Dehydrating remove most water from the product. These are also easily stored and don’t take up too much space.

Dried meats

Dried meats and jerky are a substitute to fresh meat that has to be kept in a refrigerator. Dried meats are very high in protein and are perfect to take on your next camping trip.

Dehydrated/ protein bars

These have a high source of protein and are very portable.

Oats are packed with all kinds of vitamins and minerals. They have little to no added sugar. They are a perfect healthy snack to bring on your trip.

Granola Bars

You can pick and choose the flavors that you like. My favorite are the Sunbelt Bakery granola bars. These have changed shape and size over the years but are still, arguably, the best-tasting ones there are.

Canned Goods

These aren't really a great choice for hiking due to their shape and weight but if you're car or camper camping you'll want to stock up.

Foraging and Hunting While Camping

If you learn the edible plants and berries for your area that are in season you may not need to pack as much so that you can live off of the land. Done responsibly small animals and fish (proper licensing needed) can provide all the protein you need for your outing. It's still a great idea to have a plan b (canned foods) in case either the fish are not biting or maybe you're a terrible shot.
