Gluten-Free Food Storage

Gluten-free diets are not what most food storage manufacturing companies think of when they create a line a food preps for natural disasters and other calamities. Some people eat gluten-free due to their having celiac disease. The celiac disease is a digestive condition resulting from consumption of naturally-occurring gluten found in bread, pastas, muffins, cookies, and many other foods containing wheat, barley, and/or rye. The symptoms include pain in the abdomen, and other intestinal discomfort. Over time it can impede the intestines to absorb particular vitamins and other nutrients resulting in damage to internal organs.

In additional to people being celiacs, gluten intolerance is the next worse condition related to eating and drinking foods, supplements, and products containing gluten. Gluten intolerance manifests itself through similar symptoms as celiac disease but does not have the intestinal damage.

Another reason to go gluten-free is because many people have wheat allergies. People that have an allergy to wheat may develop rashes, hives, and/or stomach discomfort after wheat consumption.

The above 3 conditions are difficult to detect. If you suspect that you or a loved one has any of the conditions you should consult a physician. A gluten-free diet simply does not mean avoiding breads, pastas, etc. Many manufacturers process food on the same machines as foods which contain wheat, ryes, barleys, etc. This taints many fruits, vegetables, and other foods processed on the same machines that you would think could have no chance of containing traces of gluten.
